cPanel disk usage was at 111% of a 6 GB limit, roughly 6.7 GB. That is where this engagement starts. The server was throttled, the site was effectively unindexed, and it was running at about one organic visit a month. DRA had been paying an external SEO provider through all of it. Ahrefs showed zero organic keywords at the discovery call on 29 September 2025.

DRA surfacing in an AI answer on amusement safety and ride engineering, a market where there are only a handful of credible providers in Australia.

The 6 GB server that had switched the site off

David Randall has thirty years in amusement device safety. He holds a mechanical engineering degree, he studied law, and he appears as an expert witness for ride operators and their insurers. Regulators refer work to him. One of them, in DRA's account, put it as “we don't have to look at that, you've got that one”. About 90% of revenue is engineering inspection work: annual and major inspections, design verification, registration, drone assisted inspection, asset management. The other 10% is WHS training as an RTO, and that is where most of the searchable volume sits.

The collapse has a simple cause. DRA's internal SEO person retired and then became incapacitated. Before that the business ran at roughly six enquiries a week and most of them turned into meetings. The site went from an enquiry engine to a brochure. Course dates were buried and unbookable, which was David's most repeated complaint across the first three calls, and it is the whole reason his spec for a course page was three items long.

The audit found the rest of it.

  • robots.txt was disallowing /storage and blocking key pages.
  • 57 internal URLs returned no response from the server at all. A speed problem was flagged across 301 URLs, again pointing at the server rather than the pages.
  • Two live 5xx pages, one of them /safety-issues/. Six 404s still linked, including /mark-rattle-work-health-and-safety-consultant/, the bio page of the consultant who had left and written most of the blog.
  • Every page on the site was tagged NewsArticle. The Organization entity was marked up as both Person and Organization, and near empty.
  • 36 pages carried only one dofollow link, which is to say almost no external support anywhere.
  • Four pages with no H1 at all, one page with several, 80 non-sequential H1s and 21 duplicate H2s.
  • Lorem ipsum, placeholder testimonials, broken accordions and Americanised spelling, on a site selling engineering inspections to insurers.
  • The blog was last updated in March 2024, mostly by an author who no longer worked there.
  • GA4, GTM and Search Console: none of the three existed.

What we actually did

A nine month roadmap from December 2025, with a Divi to Bricks rebuild threaded through months four and five and launched in month six. The first job was not SEO at all.

December 2025

The server, before anything else

The access checks found the disk over capacity, so that got cleared before a single page was touched. Indexation recovered on its own once Google could crawl the site properly.

  • Storage cleared off a cPanel reading 111% of 6 GB
  • robots.txt rewritten to stop blocking /storage and the key pages
  • Page speed work off a baseline of 68
  • Clicks went from roughly 20 a month to roughly 110 by early February
February 2026

Technical remediation

Ahrefs technical health went from about 30 to 63 in this window.

  • Blog author attribution moved off the departed consultant and onto David Randall, to consolidate author authority on someone who still works there
  • Broken internal links and the no-response URLs worked through
27 March 2026

Course pages, and the first page one

The catch-up was entirely about the booking flow: dates not visible, enrolment not linked. VetTrack confirmed as the student system.

  • “Zip lines” confirmed on page one, above most commercial results and beneath only the regulator
  • Ahrefs technical health at 93
24 April 2026

The rebuild scope, and the decision not to move

We advised David against a new domain and a rebrand. The existing Domain Rating of about 24 was worth more than a fresh start, so the whole thing was scoped as a replatform on the same domain to keep migration risk low.

  • Training page redesign Variant 1 selected by David
  • Individual course page spec locked as cost, next date, book now, with intake dates on the page because courses need about eight people to run
  • ISO 55000 and 55001 dropped from Asset Management on Sina's steer and replaced with investigations, RCA, ICAM and FMEA
  • Asset Management kept as a distinct top level service for industrial clients, Alcoa confirmed
29 May 2026

Staging, and a nav argument we lost on purpose

Around thirty staging comments were worked through before the call. The significant one came from three staff at once.

  • Navigation restructured to lead with amusement devices rather than burying them under Engineering Consultancy, the steer from CC, Sina and Ryan
  • Mitchell Barnes flagged the homepage copy as feeling safety heavy when the core business is engineering, and the hero was reframed
  • Sina pushed for a faster go-live. Our call was launch and iterate rather than perfect on staging
3 June 2026

Divi to Bricks, same domain, overnight

The fastest launch we had done to that point. No migration crash. A brief uptime blip on launch morning resolved in minutes.

  • Service and course page designs rebuilt, nav restructured as agreed
  • First week post-launch ran at 9.1 clicks a day against 9.0 in the last week of May, with average position improving
  • Post-launch watch list set on indexing, redirects, canonicals and Core Web Vitals through early July
1 to 2 July 2026

The heaviest two days on the account

Three tracks shipped together: schema, analytics from zero, and a compromised contact form.

  • NewsArticle removed sitewide, the Organization entity rebuilt with a logo and four sameAs, and 16 course pages given valid Course markup with real prices
  • The recurring Events structured data error root caused: calendar events were being published with no venue, because they are offline events. Venue and organiser became a standing process rule for CC
  • A personal Gmail address exposed in the schema, removed
  • GA4 property 534288936 and container GTM-5LNP3PBD built from nothing, with phone_click, email_click and generate_lead verified in realtime and again through /collect
  • The contact form rebuilt on Fluent Forms with v3 reCAPTCHA after bots turned it into a spam relay and the host throttled outbound email to one an hour

What it added up to

The replatform held. That sounds modest right up until you have watched one go the other way. A full Divi to Bricks rebuild went live on 3 June 2026 on the same domain, and the first week after launch ran at 9.1 clicks a day against 9.0 in the last week of May, with average position improving through the same window. The report verdict was one word: HELD. The only blemish was a launch morning uptime blip that resolved in minutes.

Ahrefs technical health went from about 30 at kickoff to 63 in February and 93 by April, and held at 93 through two catch-ups. In the June rank tracker “codes of practice”, a 600 volume term, went from 18 to first, and “loto training” went from 8 to first. “Zip lines” had already reached page one back in March.

In the week of 3 July, days after conversion tracking went live, the team reported two higher value government leads: a Whitsundays sky-rail style project and Darwin Council. David reads government work as more reliable and more recurring than the mum-and-dad ride operators who make up most of this market. We are not attributing those two to search. GA4 had been live for one day and there is no source data on either of them.
