Fivestar Training Academy issues roughly one in ten of every new Queensland security licence. Google barely knew they existed.
James Crilly bought a training academy that was putting about fifty students a year through its doors. He now puts roughly sixty through every month. Fivestar issues around 570 of the 5,700 new security licences Queensland grants each year, which is close to one in ten, taught out of Nerang on the Gold Coast and at hired venues in Brisbane, Logan, Bundaberg, Toowoomba and Townsville.

None of that was showing up in Google. In June 2025 the site averaged position 33.3, which is page four. It collected 56,000 impressions a month and converted them into 476 clicks, a click-through rate of 0.85%. The site was being shown to plenty of people searching for security courses and almost none of them were clicking, because almost none of them were scrolling that far.
James is not a passive client. He runs the WordPress site himself, plus the Moodle LMS, the HubSpot CRM with a chatbot he built, the student management system, the compliance workflows and Google Tag Manager. He does server migrations on weekends. He also runs his own Semrush licence and checks everything. And he had already been through two SEO agencies, one for three months and one for ten, and had, in his words, ended up doing most of the work himself.
So the pitch could not be a pitch. On the close call, Tommy pulled up Fivestar's PageSpeed score live on screen. It came back 24, roughly eighteen seconds to load, and the culprit was the Beaver Builder page builder James had built the site on and was comfortable with. Then the backlink gap to Asset College, the competitor James measures himself against. James had seen that gap before. What he had not been given was the reason it mattered.
I want to have visibility to be right up there. We want to be seen as equal to Asset and professional.James Crilly, CEO, Five Star Training Academy
Ten months of work, in the order it happened. The early wins were deliberately technical, because a twice-burned client needs proof before he needs a content calendar.
The performance index went from 37 to 100 on 9 December 2025. Beaver Builder's render-blocking assets were the bottleneck, so we fixed the delivery rather than rebuild the site James knew how to use.
Ahrefs site health was 37 when we took the account on. It reached 92 by January 2026 and has held between 91 and 92 since.
Fivestar teaches in six Queensland cities but only ranked in one. We built and optimised the location layer so Bundaberg, Toowoomba and Townsville searches had somewhere to land.
The June 2026 audit found valid but thin markup. Course pages emitted no Course schema at all, including the Certificate II page that carries about 99% of revenue. Location pages had no LocalBusiness. The FAQ page had no FAQPage.
A leftover page at /security/ from a previous agency was pulling around 7,500 impressions a month at position 16.9, while the actual Certificate II course page sat at 14.5. The site was competing against itself for its own core qualification.
Not one blog on the site linked the Certificate II page on its canonical URL. Every single internal link routed through a 301 redirect hop, which quietly bleeds authority on the way through.
Non-brand search terms only, because ranking for your own business name proves nothing. Before is the June to August 2025 window, after is May to July 2026. Both come straight out of Search Console.
Organic clicks went from 476 in June 2025 to 700 in April 2026, up 47%, and have held in the 600 to 700 band since. Average position moved from 33.3 to a steady band around 11 to 12. Ahrefs site health went from 37 to 92.
The Certificate II in Security Operations page, which carries about 99% of the revenue, went from position 8 to first in Queensland in June 2026.
James has paid eight consecutive invoices without a single chase. For a client who opened the relationship by saying the proposal would have to be “outstanding”, and who cross-checks every number we send in his own Semrush licence, that is the metric we pay most attention to.
Their Search Console, and an AI answer neither of us controls. Fivestar also photograph their own courses, which is why the site does not look like every other RTO running the same stock library.

Moving up pages and strengthening it is exactly what we wanted. Happy with how things are travelling.
Rockhampton. A sitemap from 2025 was still telling Google where the old site lived.
A previous developer wiped their traffic overnight. We rebuilt without repeating it.
Parallel URL structures had the site bidding against itself on its best categories.
